The NHS celebrated its 70th birthday earlier this year and in our latest blog, we take a look at the history, innovations and amazing work the NHS has done since 1948.

As a business, Trovex is committed to improving health care and hygiene, and in our own 20-year history, we have long worked with the NHS to achieve these goals together. Our range of Hygienic Wall Protection, Doorsets, Hygipods and  Cubicles are used in many of the UK’s hospitals, surgeries and health care practices. We continue to work closely with the NHS and are proud to support what is considered by many, to be the best healthcare service in the world.

On 5 July 1948, the NHS was launched by Health Secretary, Aneurin Bevan, at Park Hospital in Manchester. This was the first time ever that hospitals, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, opticians and dentists were brought together to provide services for free to people living in the UK. The NHS principles were clear that the health service will be available to all and financed entirely from taxation, which means that people pay into it according to their means.

The NHS has delivered huge medical advances and improvements to public health by all but eradicating life-threatening diseases such as polio and diphtheria, and pioneering new treatments like the world’s first liver, heart and lung transplant. As technology has advanced, further innovations have been developed that include mechanical thrombectomy to improve stroke survival, bionic eyes to restore sight, and surgical breakthroughs such as hand transplants which help people live longer and improve quality of life.

It is estimated that 300,000 patients a year in England acquire a healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) as a result of care within a healthcare environment making hygiene a major priority for the NHS.  Through using Trovex’s many innovative hygienic solutions, effective prevention and control of infections is easier and most importantly, it leads to the improvement and saving of lives.
