Imperial War Museum
Located in London's SE1 hub, the Imperial War Museum is a leading authority on conflict and its impact. With nearly 1 million visitors a year, it's of high importance that the facilities of this prestigious establishment are contemporary and attractive.
Trovex was chosen to work with ITC Concepts and Lend Lease to make the commercial kitchens hygienic. The refurbishment, completed in 2014, was designed by Foster & Partners to modernise the building.
Trovex Diamond was chosen for a hygienic wall finish in the two commercial kitchens - Main Kitchen and Events Preparation Kitchen. Its smooth, impervious, satin surface is attractive and easy to clean, besides containing hygienic properties that prevent growth of bacteria.
Challenges met at the Imperial War Museum
ITC and Lend Lease were working to tight timescales and needed fast and flexible installation. Having worked with main contractors for many years, the in-house Trovex installation team took this challenge on with a relish, confident in our snag-free, fast-turnaround service delivered by experienced installers.
The main kitchen dates back to the early 1900s, with 4m high ceilings, bulkheads and large arched windows as a feature of the room. Trovex visited site in the early stages of the project and advised on surface preparation and finishing details for the installation.
Trovex helped the contractor to solve various challenges that arose in the course of the contract. Radiators were to be installed on the walls, operating above the safe working temperature of the wall cladding; Stainless Steel wall cladding panels were installed behind these. The servery roller shutter required neat finishing which Trovex resolved for the contractor by installing wall cladding around the reveals. Installers also made themselves available for weekend working to help ITC with their programme.
The finished result is a clean and professional working area for the Museum's catering staff.
